Used Smith & Wesson Values 2026:
Every Model, Every Caliber.

Founded in 1852 by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson in Springfield, Massachusetts, Smith & Wesson is the most-collected American handgun maker. From the historic Model 3 Schofield through the M&P police series to the modern M&P pistol line, S&W revolvers and pistols anchor the U.S. private-sale market. Pre-lock revolvers (produced before 2001) command meaningful premiums; Performance Center variants and engraved Heritage models run higher still.

Factory-engraved and limited-edition models. Original presentation-grade pieces with paperwork are highly collectible.

Smith & Wesson Value FAQ

Are pre-2001 'pre-lock' Smith & Wesson revolvers worth more?

Yes — Smith & Wesson added an internal hammer-block 'lock' to revolvers in 2001-2002, and the collector market has consistently paid 15-30% premiums for original-condition pre-lock examples versus equivalent post-lock guns. The premium is largest on collector models like the Model 27, 29, 36, and pre-Model 10 hand-ejectors.

What's the difference between Performance Center and standard M&P pistols?

Performance Center M&P pistols are hand-fitted at S&W's custom shop with tighter tolerances, ported barrels (on some), competition triggers, and upgraded sights. They typically run $150-300 above an equivalent standard M&P new, and hold that premium on the used market when in original condition.

Why do Model 19 Combat Magnums vary so much in price?

Production date matters enormously on the K-frame .357. Original (pre-1982) Model 19s with the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder run significantly higher than later production. Carry Comp variants and the modern Classic re-issue are separately valued.

How do I tell if my S&W is collector-grade?

Original box, paperwork, and accessories double or triple the value on most collector revolvers. Matching serial numbers (frame, cylinder, barrel on older guns), original finish (no refinish), and pre-lock production are the four big drivers.
