Used Sauer Values 2026:
Every Model, Every Caliber.

J.P. Sauer & Sohn was founded in 1751 in Suhl, Germany — the oldest firearm manufacturer in Germany still in operation. Today's Sauer is part of the L&O Holding group (also owns Mauser, Blaser, and SIG Sauer). Sauer 100, 101, 202, and 404 are premium bolt-action hunting rifles — the 404 is widely considered one of the finest production rifles in the world. MSRP runs $1,800-7,000+. Sauer also produces engraved drillings (3-barrel combination rifle/shotguns) at the very top of the European hunting market.

Sauer Value FAQ

Is Sauer the same company as SIG Sauer?

Separate today but historically linked. The original J.P. Sauer & Sohn (1751) partnered with SIG (Swiss Industrial Company) in 1976 to produce the P220 — that partnership became SIG Sauer (now SIG Sauer Inc. in the US is separate). The original German Sauer continues hunting rifle production under L&O Holding (which also owns Blaser and Mauser).

Why is the 404 so expensive?

Modular take-down design with tool-less barrel swaps, hand-fitted action, premium walnut, and adjustable double-set triggers. MSRP runs $4,500-7,000 for standard configurations. Custom engraved variants $15,000-50,000+. Among the most prestigious production hunting rifles in the world.

Are Sauer drillings collectible?

Very. Three-barrel combination guns (two shotgun, one rifle) are largely a German hunting tradition. Original engraved Sauer drillings from the 1950s-1980s in good condition routinely run $5,000-15,000. Modern production is limited.

Where can I service a Sauer rifle in the US?

Blaser USA (San Antonio, Texas) handles U.S. distribution and service for all Sauer products. Original German parts are stocked. Some 404 service requires returning the rifle to Germany.
