Para Ordnance Value FAQ

Why was Para Ordnance discontinued?

Remington (which had acquired Para in 2012) discontinued the brand in 2015 as part of the post-bankruptcy restructuring. Pre-Remington Para 1911s (1985-2012, Canadian production) are widely considered the better era — tighter fit and better trigger work. Original Para owners typically refer to their guns as 'pre-Big Green'.

What is LDA?

Light Double Action — Para's proprietary trigger mechanism that gives the 1911 a smooth DA-only pull (about 5-6 lbs) instead of the traditional crisp single-action. LDA Para 1911s appealed to law-enforcement buyers who wanted a 1911 form factor with a heavier-pull DA trigger.

Are P14-45s reliable?

Yes — Para's wide-frame design uses standard 1911 lockwork with a slightly wider grip frame to accept double-stack magazines. Magazine capacity in .45 ACP is 14 rounds. Ergonomically the larger grip can be challenging for smaller hands. Para magazines are still produced by Mec-Gar.

Are pre-2012 (Canadian) Para guns more valuable?

Yes, generally. Canadian-made Paras (pre-2012) typically trade $100-300 above equivalent Remington-era production. Original boxes and accessories preserve the most value.
