Iver Johnson Value FAQ

Is the modern Iver Johnson the same as the historic brand?

Same name and trademark licensing, but different ownership and production. The original Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works went out of business in 1993; the trademark was acquired by importer A.A. Worldwide Distributors in 2006 and continues under Iver Johnson Arms (Jacksonville, FL) producing imported Philippine-made and other contract firearms.

Are vintage Iver Johnson revolvers safe?

Many original Iver Johnson revolvers (1880s-1940s) were chambered for low-pressure black powder or early smokeless cartridges. Some are NOT rated for modern smokeless ammunition pressures. Check with a competent gunsmith before firing antique Iver Johnsons. Original-condition examples are collected for their history rather than as shooters.

Where are current Iver Johnson 1911s made?

Most current production is from Shooters Arms Manufacturing in the Philippines (same factory that makes Rock Island Armory). 1911 Eagle and Hawk variants are Philippine-made. The Premium series uses higher-grade components. MSRP runs $500-900.

Are historic Iver Johnson firearms collectible?

Yes — pre-1900 'Hammerless Safety' revolvers in original condition with original boxes regularly trade $300-1,500+ depending on condition and configuration. The Crackshot single-shot .22 rifles and Champion single-barrel shotguns are common in collections.
