DPMS Panther Arms (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services) was founded in 1985 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. DPMS was acquired by Cerberus Capital (Freedom Group / Remington Outdoor) in 2007 and entered bankruptcy with the parent company in 2018. The DPMS LR-308 established the dominant .308 AR-10 magazine pattern (DPMS-pattern, also called SR-25/DPMS). Pre-Cerberus production (1985-2007) is the preferred 'first-generation' DPMS for collectors.
