Used Dakota Arms Values 2026:
Every Model, Every Caliber.

Dakota Arms was founded in 1985 in Sturgis, South Dakota by Don Allen. Dakota specializes in premium-grade custom bolt-action hunting rifles built on the Model 76 (a Winchester-style action) and the smaller Model 97. The Sharps reproduction and the Dakota Predator are also in the lineup. Dakota is one of the few remaining American makers of true presentation-grade hunting rifles. Owned by Remington/Cerberus 2009-2018, then acquired by Custom Limited Editions in 2019.

Dakota Arms Value FAQ

Is the Model 76 a Winchester clone?

It's heavily inspired by the Winchester Model 70 but uses Dakota's own machined-from-steel action with a 3-position safety and controlled-round feeding. Mauser-pattern bolt with a claw extractor. Generally considered to be a refinement of the M70 design with tighter tolerances and better finishing.

How much does a standard Model 76 cost?

MSRP $7,500-12,000 for standard configurations. African and Safari grades run $10,000-18,000. Presentation-grade engraved Model 76s start at $25,000 and can exceed $80,000 for hand-engraved gold inlay pieces. Resale value typically 75-90% of original price for used rifles.

Are Dakota rifles still produced?

Yes — Dakota Arms was acquired by Custom Limited Editions in 2019 and continues full production from Sturgis, South Dakota. Prior to that, Cerberus/Remington owned Dakota 2009-2018 — that period saw quality control inconsistencies. Pre-Cerberus (1985-2009) and post-2019 production are preferred over the intervening era.

What is the Sharps Hartford?

Dakota's reproduction of the 1874 Sharps long-range target rifle. Built to original Sharps specifications with modern steel and precision tolerances. Popular for long-range single-shot competition (BPCR — Black Powder Cartridge Rifle silhouette shooting) and traditional 1,000+ yard target shooting.
