Used Browning Values 2026:
Every Model, Every Caliber.

Founded in 1878 by John Moses Browning in Ogden, Utah, Browning Arms Company is responsible for some of the most-produced firearms in history. The Auto-5 (1902) was the world's first successful semi-auto shotgun; the Hi-Power (1935) defined the single-action 9mm market; and the Citori has been the best-selling O/U shotgun in the U.S. since the 1980s. Modern Browning is owned by FN Herstal of Belgium (also the parent of FN America). Belgian-made production (Liège, pre-1976) is highly collected.

Browning Value FAQ

Are Belgian-made Brownings worth more than Japanese-made?

Yes, generally — particularly for shotguns produced through 1976 in Liège, Belgium (at the FN Herstal factory). Pre-1976 Auto-5s and Superposeds command meaningful premiums. After 1976 most production shifted to Miroku in Japan (still under Browning specs) which remains the current source for Citori O/U production. Japanese-made guns are excellent quality but trade lower.

What's the difference between an Auto-5 and a Gold / Silver / Maxus?

The Auto-5 used John Browning's original long-recoil action (1902-1998). The Gold (1994), Silver (2006), and Maxus (2009) all use modern gas-operated actions. The Auto-5 has the distinctive 'humpback' receiver profile; the modern guns have rounded contours. The A5 (2012-present) reintroduced the humpback receiver but uses Inertia operation.

Is the X-Bolt better than the A-Bolt II?

Yes — most owners consider it an upgrade. The X-Bolt has a rotary 3-lug bolt (vs the A-Bolt's 60-degree throw), a better trigger (Feather Trigger), and an integrated barrel-locking lug. A-Bolt IIs are still highly serviceable and trade $100-200 below equivalent X-Bolts.

Why did Browning discontinue the Hi-Power?

Browning ended Hi-Power production in 2017 after 82 years. FN Herstal reintroduced it as the High Power in 2022 (FN-branded) and Browning followed with their own 2022 reintroduction. Original (pre-2017) Hi-Powers, particularly Belgian-made ones with high-polish blue, are highly collected and have appreciated substantially since discontinuation.
