The Kolibri — World’s Smallest Production Firearm (Pre-Modern)

Designed in 1910, Produced 1914Austrian gunmaker Franz Pfannl designed the 2mm Kolibri (German for hummingbird) as a ‘vest pocket’ pistol. The semi-auto pistol fires a 2mm bullet with barely more energy than a pellet gun.

Dangerous Despite SizeWhile the 2mm Kolibri produces only 3–5 ft-lbs of energy (vs. 350+ for a 9mm), shots to the eye or neck could be fatal. It was marketed as a ‘last resort’ weapon.

Collector Value TodayOriginal 2mm Kolibri pistols in good condition sell for $500–$2,500 depending on condition and provenance. Complete sets with ammunition command the highest prices — the 2mm Kolibri cartridge hasn’t been commercially produced in decades.
