About the Glock 17 Gen 5
The Glock 17 is the original — the duty-sized 9mm that introduced polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols to the world in 1982. Adopted by the Austrian Army as the P80 and then by police agencies on every continent, it set the template for what a modern service pistol looks like. The Gen 5 update brought the Marksman Barrel, ambidextrous controls, and the flared magwell while preserving everything that made the original great.
Why the Glock 17 Gen 5 Is Valued
The Glock 17 is the most-produced 9mm service pistol in history, which keeps both supply and prices stable on the secondary market. NIB Gen 5s sell for $550–650; clean police trade-ins land at $375–450 with the bonus of high round counts proving the platform.
What Affects This Gun's Value
Gen 5 commands the strongest premium; Gen 3 and Gen 4 step down roughly $50 per generation. Trijicon HD or factory night sights add $50–80. MOS (optic-cut) versions sell $40–60 above standard. Police trade-ins with significant holster wear lose $60–100.
